Change users Screen Saver through GPO

20 April 2010

How to change the Screen Saver through GPO?

Open the group policy you would like to edit, and reach the below path

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display

Below settings we have to configure to enable the Screen Saver:

Screen Saver: Set this to enabled
Screen Saver Timeoute: Set this to your specified time
Screen Saver executable name: set this to Not Configured

Screen Saver executable name:

If you enable this policy:
The system displays the specified screen saver on the user's desktop. This policy disables the drop-down list of screen savers on the Screen Saver tab in Display in Control Panel, preventing users from changing the screen saver.

If you disable this policy or do not configure it:
Users can select any screen saver.

To use this policy:
Type the name of the file that contains the screen saver, including the .scr file name extension. If the screen saver file is not in the Systemroot \System32 directory, enter the fully qualified path to the file.

If the specified screen saver is not installed on a computer to which this policy applies, the policy is ignored.

Configure this policy and specify the file name or full path.

Note: JPG file can’t be used for a screen saver
